Pellets - heating, thinking for the future!

The pellets are one of the most frequently used bioproducts in the recent years.

The pellets are produced on the basis of wood chips, residues from the processing of the wood, suitably dried and compressed under high pressure. As a result of that process, small granules with different size and cylindrical shape are produced. Thanks to the linking possibility of the lignin, substance naturally present in the wood, there is no need to add  any type of additive, in order to be produced  a natural fuel, environmentally safe and highly efficient.

The wood pellets are a relatively new combustion product of the biofuel market. In essence they are part of the renewable energy sources (RES), since they are produced from wood biomass.

Under the Kyoto Protocol, the pellets are considered to be completely ecologically clean fuel. Carbon emissions from the burning of wood pellets does not modify the content of CO2 in the atmosphere.

When burning pellets emit as much CO2 as it is produced by the wood decay. This increases their ecological value.

Pellets are with high calorific value (5 kWh/kg), clean, safe for the environment and neutral concerning CO2. They burn completely with minimal residual ash (less than 0.5%), which can be used as a valuable material for fertilizing. Taking into consideration the pressure during the production phase, the energy density of the pellets is approximately double than that of a tree.

Pellets feed automatic fuel heating systems with water and air for one or more rooms as well as central heating boilers with high power. The process of combustion, ignition and extinction is fully automatic.

Coniferous pellets usually have a higher heat capacity and less ash.
